Attorney and a partner at Dottir Attorneys Ltd., well-versed in employment law and HR matters

Samuel Kääriäinen is a Helsinki-based attorney and a partner at Dottir Attorneys Ltd., well-versed in employment law and HR matters. He has spent his entire career working specifically with employers – initially as an employment and labour lawyer at an employers’ association, then for 7 years in the employment law practice of a renowned law firm specializing in business law, and since early 2019 as a partner and head of employment law at the rapidly growing and modern Dottir Attorneys Ltd.

Samuel dislikes confrontation between parties in a situation where it does more harm than good to both. He therefore states that his aim is to increase the parties’ understanding of the legal rules of the game and each other’s interests. Fortunately, knowledge of the law can prevent some disputes because not every issue is based on opinion—facts should be understood, and negotiations can follow. Samuel encourages supervisors to make use of the opportunities the law provides. He believes that even on the employee side, difficult decisions are easier to accept when they are made correctly, with respect for the other party, and communicated clearly.

Over the past 15 years, Samuel has helped employers handle various everyday matters as well as complex change negotiations and disputes. Some of this work has been purely legal advice, some has been assisting in various negotiations and some has been defending employers in court. This background provides a solid foundation for offering training on these topics. He has also conducted numerous training sessions.

For years, Samuel has been ranked by Chambers & Partners, Legal500 and Who’s Who Legal as one of the top employment lawyers in Finland. He is particularly proud of his recent work at Dottir, where they have successfully built a high-quality and up to date employment law practice in a short period of time.

Samuel can be found on LinkedIn and of course on the Dottir website.
